Barbadians are reminded that information on the recently signed Protocol Six by the Social Partnership can now be accessed online.

The document, which may be found on the Ministry of Labour’s website – http://labour.gov.bb/social-partnership, was signed earlier this month at the Barbados Worker’s Union May Day Celebrations and builds on Protocol Five, which was ratified in 2005.??

The new Protocol speaks to issues which are relevant to the social and economic development of this country and include: Barbados’ successful emergence from the current economic crisis and the desire to become "The Number One Entrepreneurial Hub in the World" by attracting investment in diversified sectors and the development of new skills; human development and the management of health issues, especially chronic diseases, recognising the link between good health and human and economic

development and the development of a knowledge-driven economy to encourage a culture of information sharing within and across all sectors.

It also focuses on environmental protection and the Green Economy, as well as initiatives that seek to reduce our carbon footprint.

The Social Partnership emerged out of the economic crisis of the early 1990s, after Government along with Employers’ and Trade Union Representatives joined together and signed the first Protocol for the implementation of a Prices and Incomes Policy for the period 1993 to 1995. Protocol Six is expected to expire in 2013.??
