The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) increased by 1.3 per cent in December 2014, compared with the previous month. The growth in the index was due to an increase of 4.6 per cent in the consumption of Electricity, Gas and Water.
Meanwhile, decreases of 8.3 per cent were recorded in the Mining and Quarrying Sector and 0.2 per cent in Manufacturing.
The IIP for December 2014 recorded a decrease of 3.1 per cent compared with the previous year. Decreases of 5.9 per cent were reflected in the indices for Manufacturing, whereas increases of 21.2 per cent were recorded for Mining and Quarrying and 0.9 per cent in Electricity, Gas and Water.
Output for the Mining and Quarrying Sector grew by 21.2 per cent at the end of December compared with the previous year, with an increase of 30.1 per cent in the production of Stone Quarrying. However, a decrease of 9.6 per cent was reflected within the sub sector of the index for Mining.
Production in the Electricity, Gas and Water Sector grew by 0.9 per cent when compared with the previous year, due to an increase of 2.0 per cent in the generation of Electricity. Decreases of 3.2 per cent were reflected in the index for Water and 1.5 per cent for Natural Gas.
Year on year output for December 2014 decreased by 5.9 per cent mainly due to declines in the sub-sectors for Food (6.0 per cent); Beverages and Tobacco (4.0 per cent); Wooden Furniture (16.0 per cent) and Non-Metallic Minerals (23.4 per cent).
Declines were also recorded in the following sub-sectors: Electronic Components (14.9 per cent) and Other Manufacturing (5.2 per cent). Increases were recorded in the index for Wearing Apparel (9.6 per cent) and Chemicals (19.2 per cent).
