The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) decreased by 4.5 per cent in November 2014, compared with the previous month.

The fall in the index was due to a decrease in the Mining and Quarrying sectors (24.0 per cent); the Manufacturing sector (4.2 per cent) and the consumption of Electricity, Gas and Water (3.4 per cent).

In addition, the IIP for that month also recorded a decrease of 4.0 per cent, compared with the previous year.??Decreases were reflected in the indices for Manufacturing (6.8 per cent) and Electricity, Gas and Water (0.2 per cent).

The index for Mining and Quarrying recorded an increase of 22.6 per cent. Output for the Mining and Quarrying Sector grew by 22.6 per cent at the end of November compared with the previous year, while production in the Stone Quarrying and Mining sub-sectors increased by 29.7 per cent and 6.8 per cent, respectively.

Production in the Electricity, Gas and Water Sector fell by 0.2 per cent when compared with the previous year, due to decreases in the generation of Electricity (0.2 per cent), and Water (0.5 per cent). Natural Gas, however, recorded an increase of 4.7 per cent.

Year on year output for November 2014 decreased by 6.8 per cent, mainly due to declines in the sub-sectors for Beverages and Tobacco (4.7 per cent), Wooden Furniture (14.9 per cent), Chemicals (6.0 per cent), Non-Metallic Minerals (22.5 per cent) and Other Manufacturing (20.3 per cent).

Increases were recorded in the index for Food (12.4 per cent), Wearing Apparel (76.1 per cent) and Electronic Components (3.5 per cent).
