An appeal is being made to members of the public to comply with No Entry and other traffic signs erected at the Folkestone Park and Marine Reserve for their own safety.

This appeal is coming from Manager of the Holetown, St. James facility, John Nicholls, who has expressed concern about motorists ignoring road signs, parking in No Parking areas and ignoring the warnings of construction personnel to avoid the area.

Therefore, motorists are reminded that phase two of the Coastal Risk Assessment and Management Programme is now under way and work is expected to continue until November 30.

As a result, the car park, beach front and beach picnic areas are now closed to the public to facilitate work on the Holetown Waterfront Improvement Project. Folkestone beach is also closed and lifeguards transferred to other beaches.

However, the lawn for picnics; the tennis and basketball courts; the bathroom facilities; the Children’s Play Park; the Interpretive/Visitors’ Centre; Souvenir and Snorkel Rental shops and the administration building at Folkestone will remain open.

Mr. Nicholls has stressed that the access road leading into Folkestone is for local use only, and explained this would include residents and project personnel.

Members of the public are again being urged to comply with all traffic directions. Concerns and queries should be directed to the Coastal Zone Management Unit at 228-5950.
