The public and other stakeholders in the criminal justice system are invited to have their say on the Barbados Sentencing Guidelines project, which will give judges and magistrates sentencing guidelines for firearm and drug offences.

The consultation will run for a two-week period beginning today Wednesday, June 30, and concluding on Wednesday, July 14.  Comments may be submitted to sentencing.guidelines@barbados.gov.bb.

Following discussions with the Sentencing Guidelines Committee, the first two draft guidelines for offences of fire arms and drugs were developed for use by judges and magistrates and will benefit victims and witnesses of crime, prosecutors and defence attorneys.

At the end of the consultation, all comments will be vetted by the committee and adjustments made, where necessary.
