Stakeholders in the criminal justice system now have more time to submit comments on the Barbados Sentencing Guidelines project which will give judges and magistrates sentencing guidelines for firearm and drug offences.

The consultation which began on Wednesday, June 30, has been extended to Friday, July 30. Public comments may be submitted to sentencing.guidelines@barbados.gov.bb.

Following discussions with the Sentencing Guidelines Committee, the first two draft guidelines for offences of firearms and drugs were developed for use by judges and magistrates and will benefit victims and witnesses of crime, prosecutors and defence attorneys.

At the end of the consultation, the comments will be vetted by the committee and adjustments made, where necessary.
