Nurses have planned a series of activities to mark Public Health Nurses Week 2011.

Under the theme Public Health in Action, the week will run from Saturday, July 2, until Saturday, July 9.

It will begin with a sponsored two-hour walk from Worthing, Christ Church to the Hastings Boardwalk and back, where breakfast will be served. The walk begins at 6:00 a.m.

On Sunday, July 3, there will be divine worship at the St. Augustine Anglican Church, St. George, from 8:00 a.m.

From Tuesday, July 5, to Friday, July 8, there will be a number of outreach programmes at the eight polyclinics.?? At Randal Phillips Polyclinic in Oistins, Christ Church, there will be women’s health checks on Tuesday, July 5, that will include breast examinations and pap smears and a walk-through of the community to determine the immunisation status of children.

At the Maurice Byer Polyclinic, on Wednesday, July 6, there will be health checks for the public and staff, while on Friday, July 8, the Winston Scott Polyclinic

at Jemmotts Lane will host free, health checks at the Esplanade at Browne’s Beach, Bay Street.

Public health nurses will continue their celebrations on Saturday, July 9, with an educational outreach programme, at Haynesville Playing Field, St. James that will include mini lectures/discussions as well as the handing-out of pamphlets and brochures on asthma, immunization, HIV/AIDS and men’s and women’s health issues.

The week of activities culminates on Saturday, July 9, with a barbecue on the grounds of the Winston Scott Polyclinic from 7:00 until 11:00 p.m.
