Members of the public are invited to register and attend the Barbados Coral Reef Symposium 2018 and art exhibition to mark World Oceans Day on Friday, June 8.
It comes off in the Marigold Room at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre (LESC), Two Mile Hill, St. Michael, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Tickets for the Symposium may be purchased from the Bellairs Research Institute, Holetown, St. James; Hazell’s Water World, Carlisle Bay, Bay Street, St. Michael; and Best of Barbados’ branches at Quayside, and Welches, Christ Church. Meanwhile, admission to the art exhibition and booths which will be held in the upstairs foyer of the LESC is free.
The event is being hosted by the Coral Reef Restoration Alliance (CORALL) in association with the Coastal Zone Management Unit (CZMU). Presentations will include Barbados a Coral Paradise Under Threat in a Changing Climate by Director of the CZMU, Dr. Leo Brewster and the Invasive Lionfish and its Impact on Barbados’ Coral Reefs, presented by Dr. Julian Walcott of CERMES.
During the symposium, Environmental Committee Chair at the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association, Andre Miller, will also address the topic: Barbados a Coral Paradise: A Timeless Tourism Product, while Community Outreach, Research and Partnership Officer with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Nikki Hassell and Technical Coordinator at the IDB, Tracy Phillips, will examine Public-Private Partnerships for Coral Reef Restoration in Barbados.
The event seeks to raise the awareness of issues affecting reef health, and promote solutions for the restoration of coral reef ecosystems in Barbados.
