Minister of Creative Economy, Culture and Sports, John King, is urging members of the public to visit the Argentine vessel Frigate ARA Libertad, at the Flour Mill, Mighty Grynner Highway.
“The ship is open for the general public to come down,” he stressed, noting that it had a fantastic family programme, which would be educational and fun, on Monday, December 16, and Tuesday, December 17.
School children are specially invited to tour the vessel with Minister of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy, Kirk Humphrey, on Monday, December 16, at 2:30 p.m.
Mr. King was part of a delegation that included Minister Humphrey; Chairman of the Barbados Port Inc., Lisa Cummins; Chief of Staff of the Barbados Defence Force, Colonel Glyne Grannum; and Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to Barbados, Gustavo Martinez Pandiani.
“Governments will come and go, and will change. But if you have relationships between people, those are sustainable and those are the ones that will make the difference,” he said.
The Minister lauded the relationship which Barbados and Argentina shared, noting that a number of young people went to Argentina to visit the football academy, while its Embassy in Barbados continued to be a place where artistic endeavours were done on a regular basis. “A lot of our artists go there and exhibit their work,” he said.
Mr. King also extended an invitation to Commanding Officer for Training on the vessel, Captain Juan Carlos Romay and his crew, to be a part of We Gatherin’ 2020.
Ambassador Pandiani also stressed that We Gatherin’ 2020 was an important event for Barbadians by birth and by choice.
“I am one of them, and I will be here in 2020 celebrating together with you,” he said, while telling members of the crew that 2020 would be the perfect year for them to visit Barbados.
