Members of the public will get an opportunity within a few days, to hear about earthquakes and tsunamis in the region when the Department of Emergency Management and the Coastal Zone Management Unit host a public lecture entitled: Earthquakes and Tsunamis in the Caribbean: 50 Years vs 500 Years.

It will take place on Wednesday, March 9, from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Training Room, the Barbados Public Worker???s Co-operative Credit Union, Belmont Road, St Michael.

The guest speaker will be Seismologist at the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre, Dr. Joan Latchman. Parking is available at the Girl Guides Association???s ???In Field??? Car Park on Pax Hill, Belmont Road, St Michael.

March has been designated as Tsunami and Earthquake Smart Month. This year???s focus will be the promotion of tsunami and earthquake awareness and the mitigation of risks associated with these hazards.
