Barbadians will soon have an opportunity to learn more about domestic violence and how it affects the society.

A public meeting will be held next Monday, April 20, in the main conference room of the Ministry of Education, the Elsie Payne Complex, Constitution Road, starting at 7:00 p.m.

Sponsored by the Service Alliance for Violent Encounters (SAVE) Foundation and the Bureau of Gender Affairs, the discussion is aimed at sensitising the public about domestic violence issues. In addition, those in attendance will have the opportunity to join the Foundation.

Founder and chairperson of the SAVE Foundation, Liesel Daisley, is urging the public to attend and participate in the meeting.

“Domestic violence is on the increase in Barbados and the region and we need to come together as a nation and eradicate this scourge…It is an invasion of basic human rights and we need to stop the violence and save our society,” Ms. Daisley stated.

SAVE Foundation was launched nearly three weeks ago for survivors of domestic violence and other forms of aggression. According to Ms. Daisley, “the body is in pursuit of an ideal where societies are free from domestic violence, free from torture and pain, and free from the subjection of inferior gender relations”.
