The Electoral and Boundaries Commission (EBC) is advising holders of a Barbados Identification Card that they must now notify the Chief Registering Officer of any change of residence within 30 days of their relocation.
Chief Registering Officer, Angela Taylor, explained that this new change was in accordance with the Barbados Identity Management (BIM) Act, which was passed in Parliament in February 2021.
The BIM Act states: “A person who has been issued with an identification card shall notify the Chief Registering Officer of any change in his place of residence within 30 days of the change of address by submitting the Notice of Change of Residence Form.”
Mrs. Taylor is encouraging registrants who recently changed their address to notify the Electoral Department within the stipulated period. She added that those outside of the specified 30-day period should immediately submit the Notice of Change of Residence Form to the Electoral Department.
The Change of Residence Forms are available on the EBC’s website at www.electoral.barbados.gov.bb, or from the Electoral Department, First Floor, Warrens Towers II, Warrens, St. Michael, Monday to Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Mrs. Taylor explained that under the BIM Act, a person who contravenes this subsection is liable to pay the Commission an administrative penalty of $500. This penalty will be enforced with effect from April 1, 2022.
