Many persons still do not know how they can seek redress from discrimination in the workplace.

This was revealed today by Project Coordinator in the Ministry of Labour, Rhonda Farley, as she spoke to members of the media while conducting surveys with workers at Southern Plaza, Oistins, Christ Church.

This activity was part of the first stop on a bus tour held by the Ministry of Labour to raise awareness about discrimination in the workplace.

Ms. Farley underscored the importance of the survey by noting that while persons were aware of stigma and discrimination in terms of HIV and AIDS, they were not aware of what discrimination is in the wider context, and that it could occur in the workplace.

???We are seeking to do about 200 surveys, and that information would be used to develop our programme within the Ministry of Labour. We are going to see what we need to do going forward in terms of what people know about discrimination to help us further strengthen our legislation as well as our education programmes,??? she explained.

Other stops on the bus route included: Newton, Christ Church; the Barbados Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation, Fairy Valley; Grantley Adams Industrial Estate; Trimart, St. Philip; and Six Roads Industrial Estate, St Philip.

The bus tour was the Ministry of Labour???s second activity for the year focusing on sensitising the public on discrimination in the workplace. In June, they held an outreach event in Bridgetown.
