Aspects of the Barbados public service will be reviewed this week when the Training Administration Division hosts a three-day workshop for approximately 30 senior public officers.

The High-Level Strategic Review and Planning Workshop will be held from Wednesday, February 14, to Friday, February 16, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

The workshop’s objectives are to look at the present reality of the Barbados public service, establishing its current state, relevance, purpose, suitability and capacity to respond to the needs of a 21st Century Barbados; and to articulate a vision to see how best current needs can be met to move Barbados forward in a complex and changing environment.

It will also identify transformational opportunities and existing challenges facing the public service that form the basis for an updated agenda for change.

Some of the topics to be discussed include: The Critical Importance of the Public Service in National Governance and National Development and even the Survival of the State of Barbados; The Examination of the Role of the Public Service Leaders in the New Scheme of Things and Requirements for Effective Public Service Delivery and Performance; and Mapping the Prevailing Culture of the Public Service and its Implications for Service Delivery and Policy Implementation.

In addition, participants will look at how the public service can best fulfill its mandate going forward given the lessons learnt from the strategic review, as well as the recent research contained in the Barbados National Values Assessment 2016 Report.
