Members of the public are being encouraged to participate in the activities organised by the Child Care Board (CCB) to celebrate Child Month. The month is being held under the theme Healthy Families: A Brighter Future for Our Children.
Throughout the month of May, the doors to the Government day nurseries will be open to the public from 10:00 a.m. until noon and 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays, to give persons a first-hand view of the day-to-day operations. There will also be displays of artwork produced by the children and staff.
From Monday, May 13, to Friday, May 17, the public may visit the London Bourne Day Nursery on Bay Street, John Beckles Day Nursery at Constitution Road, Joan Arundell Day Nursery in Bayville and the Delores "Ma" Worrell Day Nursery in The Pine.
To mark the Month, there will also be an Art and Craft Exhibition at the National Library which is located at Fairchild Street in The City, from Monday, May 13, to Friday, May 31. The Exhibition will be open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays.
Child Month activities continue with a dramatic presentation entitled A Special Kind of Love, which will take place at the Queen’s Park Steel Shed, The City, on Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18, beginning at 7:00 p.m. each night. The presentation will address various aspects of fostering and highlight the importance of foster care in the society. Persons who have an interest in fostering are especially invited to attend.
On Thursday, May 23 and Friday, May 24, members of the public are invited to view entries in the T-Shirt Design Competition being presented by children in foster and residential care. The display will be held at the Child Care Board’s Headquarters, Cheapside, St. Michael from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Additionally, there will be a number of events to celebrate Child Month including an Environmental Tour for staff of the Child Care Board, a youth seminar addressing the topic Issues Affecting our Children in Schools, and a karaoke session for the children of the Sterling Children’s Home.
