The public is encouraged to get moving this weekend by participating in a hike, being hosted by the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the National Task Force on Wellness.

It will be held on Saturday, October 19, from 3:30 p.m. and will begin and end at the National Stadium, Waterford, St. Michael.

At the start of the hike, walkers will go in the direction of Codrington, then switch towards the Belle, turn towards Howells and Ivy, continue through a gully behind the old Glendairy Prison and emerge onto a playing field in Waterford. They will return to the National Stadium via the road in front of Combermere School.

The hike, which is approximately 4.5 miles and expected to take about 2 hours, is suitable for children, adults and even elderly members of the society who are still agile on their feet. Those who are participating in the hike for the first time are advised that they should be reasonably fit.

Persons who wish to participate should bring sufficient drinking water and a snack to stay hydrated and energized. Hikers are also advised to wear comfortable enclosed shoes that won’t cause sliding; a hat, long pants and a long-sleeved cotton shirt, if possible. Sunscreen and sunglasses may also be helpful. The hike will be sponsored by Protex and there will be a number of promotional items available for participating hikers.
