The Central Bank has launched an initiative which is designed to assist persons suffering from Alzheimers and other dementia.
Dubbed Making Sense Out Of Cents, it will involve the collection of five million one cent pieces across Barbados to the value of $50,000 by year-end.
Following the collection drive, this sum will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association for the setting up of a day care centre for Alzheimers sufferers.
The collection has started and will peak tomorrow, Friday, September 21, Alzheimers Day, with a number of additional collection points being made available, and special publicity on that day.
The public is encouraged to make donations as well as the public sector at the various collection locations. They are: The Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development – for the Ministries in the Warrens Office Complex and Baobab Towers and their departments; the Prime Minister’s Office, Government Headquarters, Bay Street, St. Michael – (PMO and Ministry of Finance, Defence and Security, Special Assignments and their departments).
Other sites are: The Office of the Attorney General. Chief Parliamentary Counsel, Solicitor General, and the Ministry of Home Affairs; the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Water Resources Management – ministry staff and the visiting public; the Ministry of Public Works ministry staff and the visiting public; the National Insurance Building – Ministry of Health, NIS staff and members of the public.
The distinctive yellow collection bins will be placed in the respective reception areas before September 21, and where convenient, they will remain at the locations beyond that period and up to the end of December 2012.
