Nine of this island’s most outstanding citizens have been honoured by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, in her Birthday Honours List for 2014.

Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) awardees are: Chairman of the Public Service Commission, David Walter Bowen, for public service; President and Chief Executive Officer of Sagicor Life Inc., Dr. Marjorie Patricia Downes-Grant, for services to the financial sector; and retired Permanent Secretary, Lionel Livingstone Nurse, for public service.

Those presented with the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) are: Private Secretary to the Governor-General, Patricia Angela Layne, MBE, for services as the Private Secretary to three Governors-General of Barbados; retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bertie Anderson Hinds, for his service to the Royal Barbados Police Force; and physician, Dr. Adrian St. Clair Harcourt Lorde, for his service to sports medicine.

Retired teacher, Desmond Anthony Browne, and veteran broadcasters Carson St. Elmon Small and Julian Ernest Chetvynde Rogers, have been awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for their services to education, the community and broadcasting, respectively.
