Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones

Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones says his Ministry is “determined to raise the level of education and training in Barbados to that of first-world countries.”

Delivering remarks following a visit to the Barbados Accreditation Council’s (BAC) new location at “Plaza Centrale”, Roebuck Street, Bridgetown, Mr. Jones stated that “the creation of a quality culture in tertiary education and training in Barbados will assist the country in attracting foreign investment through increases in international student numbers.” He added that it was only through this achievement that Barbados would be able to compete on a global scale.

Describing the Council as having a “key role to play in the development of human resources in Barbados, through its quality assurance mandate”, Mr. Jones commended the institution for making provisions for an increase of personnel.

“I applaud this foresight, particularly as initial information indicates that there are approximately 80 post-secondary and tertiary institutions as well as training providers currently operating in Barbados,” he said.

Minister Jones also encouraged the BAC to work closely with them in their quest for excellence. “At the Council’s last workshop, institutions and training providers identified several ways in which the Council could assist with the improvement of tertiary education and training, which included technical support, workshops, seminars, a network organization and annual quality assurance and enhancement conferences. I am happy to see that the Council now has appropriate space to address some of the requirements identified by these institutions,” he stated.
