The Rural Development Commission (RDC) is appealing to its clients who have delinquent loan accounts to come in or call the office to make arrangements to settle those accounts as soon as possible.
Director of the RDC, Russell Armstrong, explained that debt recovery had now become a major priority for the commission and he was encouraging persons to “have the conversation” before the department took further action.
He stressed that the agency remained committed to assisting the rural community, and facilitating its advancement in Barbados.
“We are willing to examine the accounts on a case-by-case basis, and where necessary, put measures in place to assist clients in regularizing their status.”
In rationalizing this decision, the director explained that, in order for the programme to continue, it was necessary for those who have been entrusted with loans to keep up with their payments, so that others may benefit as the fund was of a revolving nature.
Mr. Armstrong urged persons to reach out to the RDC by June 30. “In cases where persons fail to contact the commission by this time, it would be noted as a disinterest to resolve these balances, and the relevant actions would be taken,” he stated.
