Barbadian farmers desirous of learning how to improve their vegetable yields will have the opportunity to do so next week.

The Rural Development Commission (RDC), in collaboration with the Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS), will stage a seminar entitled Enhancing Your Vegetable Production Techniques on Wednesday, June 22.

It takes place at the Ellerton Community Centre, Ellerton, St. George, and will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., with RDC Chairman, Ulric Sealy, delivering the welcome remarks.

A range of topics will be discussed including: Marketing Your Produce, Servicing Your Loan, Integrated Pest Management, Soil Testing: Key to Nutrient Management, New And Improved Technologies Applicable to Vegetable Production, and Letting your Farm Records Work For You.

Facilitators will include BAS Chief Executive Officer, James Paul; RDC Loans Administrator, Alston Fleming, Marsha Springer of Eastern Caribbean Fertilizer Limited, and BAS Field Officer, Marlon Grant-Lewis.

Explaining the rationale for hosting the seminar, Mr. Fleming said: "We have realised that some of our loan clients do not fully utilise the modern technology and techniques in their vegetable production. Because of this, we decided to host this seminar to help them enhance their farming."

Vegetable farmers are invited to make a special effort to attend.
