Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Joy St. John??

In light of the increasing number of suspected H1N1 cases attending the polyclinics, the Ministry of Health has advised the public that some child health clinic services will be rescheduled.

However, vaccination as well as new baby clinics will continue as normal.

According to the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Joy St. John, "on any given day, clinics might be overwhelmed with patients and this may result in patients being given a repeat prescription and having appointments rescheduled."

In addition, she noted follow-up appointments for selected patients would be extended.

The public is also informed that "in the event of an overwhelmed situation occurring at the polyclinics, persons will be issued with lengthened prescription times and supplies of medication."

The public is also cautioned that pregnant women, children under five years of age and people with underlying medical conditions such as diabetes, asthma and other lung conditions, sickle cell anemia and those with weakened immune systems were at a greater risk of severe illness.

These individuals should visit their doctor or clinic promptly if they experience flu-like symptoms, so that appropriate treatment can be administered.
