Regional experts will this week be putting their heads together to share information and discuss ideas on operationalising the Caribbean Sea Commission.

Under the theme, ???Operationalisation of the Caribbean Sea Commission (CSC) – The Way ahead: Building a science-policy interface for oceans governance,’ the UWI Cave Hill Campus will be the venue for the three-day consultation from Wednesday, July 7 to Friday, July 9.

The workshop, coordinated by the Centre for Resources Management and Environmental Studies (CERMES), UWI Cave Hill and the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), will bring together international and regional experts, country representatives as well as donors.

The Caribbean Sea Commission was established under the aegis of the ACS in September 2006 to provide a structured mechanism through which work on the Caribbean Sea Initiative could be pursued.?? Barbados has held the Chairmanship of the Commission since its establishment.

?????????????????????? The Caribbean Sea Initiative is an international lobby by ACS States in the United Nations which calls for international recognition of the Caribbean Sea as a special area within the context of sustainable development. tblackman@barbados.gov.bb
