This island’s Minister of Family, Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley, believes a regional workshop on calypso should be staged to allow calypsonians an opportunity to have in-depth talks on the art form.
Mr. Lashley expressed this view yesterday at his Warrens Office, during a courtesy call with Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of the Arts and Multi-Culturalism, Winston Peters.
He noted that both countries enjoyed working together and said he was looking forward to deepening that collaboration.
Mr. Peters stated that culture and sports united the region and suggested the time was ripe to harness those areas in a meaningful way "to bridge whatever gap that exists".
The Trinidadian Minister was here with a contingent to promote the Decades of Dance Festival which will be held next week in his homeland. He lamented that the region had not produced a renowned dancer or dance group for a long time and said the event was a deliberate attempt to "get people back into this expression of culture".
