Teachers, parents, guardians and members of organisations that provide care for children with special needs and learning disabilities are being invited to register for a seminar on Cognitive Strategies for Teachers, Parents and Care Givers of Children with Learning Disabilities.

A collaborative effort between the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development and the Barbados Association of Reading (BAR), the workshop will be held this Saturday, February 25, in Lecture Theatre II, University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.

It will run from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with key facilitator being Dr. Vicky Spencer, Professor in Special Needs Education and Learning Disabilities at George Mason University, Virginia, USA.

A major aim of the seminar is to provide participants with strategies which can be used to assist the development of children with learning disabilities.

Dr. Spencer is a visiting professor who is currently on a series of familiarisation sessions at institutions that address special needs education. She is sponsored by the United States Embassy’s Fulbright Specialist Programme.

Committee members of BAR including Deputy Principal of the Erdiston Teachers’ Training College, Dr. Patricia Saul and Education Officer (Literacy), Christina Morris, will also facilitate the sessions.
