The Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Water Resource Management (MAFFW), in association with the Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Human Resource Development, is inviting persons aged 16 to 35 to register now for the second cohort of their Youth Agri-preneurship programme.

The programme will focus on training young people in the practical science and business of agriculture and the development of alternative agro-industries in food products.

Project Manager of the programme, Kareem Payne, said that the Ministry saw the first programme as a ???major success???. He believed that the participants benefited significantly from the four months of training.

“Participants of the first cohort were exposed to important concepts in organic farming, technology, business and research in agriculture, both from theoretical and practical perspectives. The first cohort of students was also equipped with important entrepreneurial skills and access to mentors, and was given the option to join a youth-led agricultural cooperative, which will be established and supported by the MAFFW and other stakeholders,??? he explained.

Mr. Payne added that successful candidates could expect a highly informative, practical, dynamic and intensive programme which would positively change their perceptions of agriculture.

Persons interested in the programme should email youngagribiz@gmail.com for further information, including the application form. Applications may also be collected from the Ministry of Agriculture???s Headquarters at Graeme Hall, Christ Church.

The deadline for submission of entries is Friday, December 18, 2015, and classes for the new cohort will begin on Monday, January 18, 2016.
