As part of the activities to usher Barbados into its Republic status, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy will host a National Blue Economy Flotilla on Sunday, November 28, beginning at 3:00 p.m.

The event is being coordinated by the Barbados Defence Force, and will feature some of its assets from the Barbados Coast Guard (BCG), the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF) Marine Unit, fishing vessels, small water craft, jet skis, pleasure crafts, yachts, wind-sail vessels and water sports operators.

It is being held in recognition of the importance of the blue economy and the maritime sector to Barbados. It’s theme is Blue Barbados We Salute You! Culture by the Sea.

All service or trade providers in the blue economy space, including fisher folk, are encouraged to register and become a part of the historic event by contacting Lieutenant Coast Guard Shawn Hazelwood, at 836-3149.

The flotilla will set off in two stages simultaneously, with the first involving assets from the BCG patrol vessels, the RBPF Marine Unit, moses, schooners, and pleasure craft operators setting sail from the Shallow Draught.

Stage 2 will occur at Carlisle Bay, with the smaller power-engine and sail vessels performing displays. At the Bay will also be cultural presentations by the NCF and the Mighty Gabby.
