Home owners can now give their houses a much needed spruce up thanks to grants of up to $10,000 available under Government’s Housing Every Last Person (HELP) Programme and the Incremental Home Construction Programme (IHCP).

And, householders will have the opportunity to learn how to access these subsidies, under the Housing Neighbourhood Upgrading Programme (HNUP), when the Ministry of Housing and Lands hosts a free Registration Fair next Saturday, June 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Ministry’s Country Road headquarters.

??According to Project Officer for the HNUP, Moreen Bowen, "This Fair will target prospective home owners who are looking to make minor repairs to their homes, especially those from low-income households.?? In addition, it will also be used as a platform to sensitise Barbadians about the grants available under this housing programme. Therefore, the Ministry wants to take this opportunity to encourage persons to come out to the fair as they would benefit tremendously and will receive any needed assistance with the application process."

She continued: "The Ministry once again wants to reiterate that this programme is a grant and not a loan and, therefore, it does not involve any repayments, since some persons misunderstand the terms. Thus, we want to encourage the general public to come out and use this opportunity to fully understand first hand, the benefits of this programme to individual householders.

The housing official added that patrons could look forward to "a day of fun and entertainment" at the event.

"We are catering to young persons and families. Everyone is welcome.?? We, at the Ministry, just want people to come out and support this endeavour.?? Entertainers like Red Plastic Bag, Adrian Clarke and reigning calypso king, Popsicle will be there.?? Spoken word artiste, Adrian Greene will put in an appearance and a resident DJ will be on hand. There will also be face painting for children and give-aways throughout the day," Ms. Bowen said.

The Ministry will also provide a shuttle service from the Princess Alice Bus Terminal to the Fairchild Street Terminal, then to the National Housing Corporation, at Country Road, St. Michael from 10:00 a.m. to noon and from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at no additional cost.
