Having netted over 250 pounds of litter in its annual beach cleanup last year, the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) will be returning to Morgan Lewis Beach, St. Andrew, for this year’s exercise, on International Coastal Cleanup Day, Saturday, September 19.

Barbadians from across the island are invited to participate in this year’s exercise, which will get underway at 7:00 a.m., however, a special invitation is being extended to residents of Shorey Village, St. Andrew.
Interested persons are asked to register with the EPD by contacting one of the department’s Marine Pollution Officers at telephone numbers 310-3621/22 or 23.

Participants requiring transportation to the cleanup are asked to meet at the EPD headquarters, LV Harcourt Lewis Building, National Union of Public Workers Complex, Dalkeith, St. Michael, at 5:45 for a 6:00 a.m. departure.
Those not requiring transportation are, however, asked to meet at the Conrad Hunte Sports Club, Shorey Village, St. Andrew, at 6:30 a.m.

Cleanups will also be conducted at the following beaches on that same day: Long Beach, hosted by the Caribbean Youth Environment Network; Browne’s Beach, co-ordianted by the Sunshine Optimist Club and the Future Centre and Cattlewash, organised by Comfort Assist Reach out and Educate Barbados.

Individuals or groups are more than welcome to join these cleanups or organise their own. Persons wishing to host their own, however, should contact the National Conservation Commission and the EPD prior to the activity.
