Barbados??? relationship with Brazil has been strengthened in recent years and Prime Minister Freundel Stuart has attributed this in part to the work of that country???s outgoing Ambassador Appio Claudio Acquarone.

During a courtesy call at Government Headquarters yesterday, Mr. Stuart told the envoy: ???Your stint has done much to deepen the relationship between the two countries. We feel closer to Brazil than we ever felt and that is as a result of you reaching out and pushing back the frontiers. I am looking forward to the further deepening of this relationship.???

He expressed the view that with the introduction of GOL Airlines from Brazil, travel would improve between the two countries and the citizens should better understand one another.

According to the Prime Minister, Brazil is clear on the role it has to play in world affairs and he opined that with the exposure it would receive from hosting the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics, the South American country would further consolidate its position on the world stage.

Mr. Acquarone thanked the Prime Minister for the support rendered during the four and a half years he spent here, saying it was easy to live and work in Barbados.

He leaves Barbados this Wednesday for his new assignment in Cyprus.
