Parliamentary Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Senator Irene Sandiford-Garner (FP)??

The first shipment of relief supplies for earthquake-stricken Haiti will be leaving Barbados this weekend and not tomorrow, as was stated in one section of today’s press.

This was revealed today by Parliamentary Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Senator Irene Sandiford-Garner, who said that a shipment of supplies would be leaving the island on Saturday for Jamaica.

Senator Sandiford-Garner stated that the Regional Security System and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency would be collaborating to provide transportation of the relief supplies to Haiti.

She added that two 40ft containers were donated by a shipping company to Government; one of the containers would be packed with medical supplies, while the other would be devoted to "a variety of items.

"All items will be packed from the official warehouses at Six Roads and Barbarees Hill and the process supervised by the Customs and Excise Department to ensure that no contraband is shipped under the flag of Barbados," she stressed.

Senator Sandiford-Garner appealed to Barbadians to list the items they donated, since this would assist volunteers in creating a database of items to ensure that the supply management was efficient.
