This island will pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the two World Wars, at the Remembrance Day Service next Sunday, November 13.
The inter-denominational service will take place at the Cenotaph, National Heroes Square, the City, and will commence at 8:00 a.m. Acting Governor General, Elliot Belgrave; Prime Minister Freundel Stuart; Leader of the Opposition, Owen Arthur; and Members of the Diplomatic Corps, are expected to lay wreaths during the solemn proceedings in memory of the ex-servicemen and women.
There will also be a parade of armed units including detachments from the Barbados Defence Force’s Guard of Honour, the Barbados Coast Guard, the Band of the Royal Barbados Police Force, the Royal Barbados Police Force and the Barbados Cadet Corps.
Unarmed units will comprise members of the Barbados Fire Service, the Barbados Prison Service, the Barbados Girl Guides’ Association, the Band of the Barbados Defence Force, the St. John’s Ambulance Brigade, the Barbados Red Cross and the Barbados Boys’ Scouts Association. Members of the Barbados Legion will also be on parade.
Prior to the service, there will be a full dress rehearsal for all armed and unarmed units, this Sunday, November 6, at 8:00 a.m. in Heroes Square and, as a consequence, traffic will be diverted from this area.
