Security guards security guards agencies and private investigators are reminded that their licences expired on December 31, 2009, and should have been renewed by January 31, 2010.

An official of the Defence and Security Division of the Prime Minister’s Office explained that this was in keeping with the Security Guards Act, which stated that persons who failed to renew their licences, but continued to provide security services, would be liable on conviction to a fine of $5,000 or imprisonment for two years, or both.

The official also noted that non-nationals would not be issued with security guards’ licences unless documentation was provided which verified that the applicants were residents or citizens of Barbados, or had permits to work as security guards.??????????

A valid police certificate of character must be submitted with each application for renewal. Application forms should be collected and returned to the Defence and Security Division, Prime Minister’s Office, Bay Street, St. Michael. The prescribed fees must also be paid when renewing the licence.
