Matters of mutual interest were discussed recently when non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Sung Moon-up, presented his credentials to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Dr. Jerome Walcott, at the ministry on Culloden Road, St Michael. 

Senator Walcott underscored Barbados’ long-standing relationship with the Republic of South Korea, and assured the Ambassador that Government would continue to collaborate strategically to strengthen the relationship. 

Senator Walcott and Ambassador Moon-up touched on areas of trade and international business; film and the Arts; training and exchanges in sports; “Green growth” policies and other SIDS related topics, including sustainable development and renewable energy; Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training; and promoting entrepreneurship.

It was also revealed that the ministry is desirous of having Barbados’ Ambassador at Beijing appointed as non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, and appointing an Honorary Consul in Seoul.  

Diplomatic relations were established on November 15, 1977.
