The Retail Price Index for August 2017 increased by 1.7 per cent in comparison to July 2017, moving from 176.5 to 179.5 points.

According to the Barbados Statistical Service, among the major groups, food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 5.5 points or 2.4 per cent; alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics increased by 5.7 points or 2.9 per cent; and clothing and footwear decreased by 0.2 of a point or 0.2 per cent.

Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels increased by 2.2 points or 1.5 per cent; furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance increased by 1.8 points or 1.2 per cent; while health remained unchanged.

Transport decreased by 0.6 of a point or 0.4 per cent, Communication remained unchanged and Recreation and Culture increased by 0.5 of a point or 0.5 per cent.

Education increased by 7.8 points or 1.8 per cent, Restaurants and Hotels increased by 1.8 points or 0.7 per cent, and miscellaneous goods and services increased by 5.7 points or 5 per cent.
