The retail price index for December 2016 decreased by 0.3 per cent in comparison with November 2016, moving from 173.2 to 172.6 index points.

Among the major groups, food and non-alcoholic beverages decreased by 0.1 of a point or 0.0 per cent; alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics decreased by 1.1 point or 0.6 per cent; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels decreased  by 4.4 points or 3.0 per cent; and clothing and footwear remained unchanged.

Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance decreased by 0.2 of a point or 0.1 per cent; health increased by 0.1 of a point or 0.1 per cent; transport increased by 0.9 of a point or 0.6 per cent; and communication remained unchanged.

Recreation and culture increased by 0.4 of a point or 0.4 per cent; education remained unchanged; restaurants and hotels increased by 5.7 points or 2.2 per cent; and miscellaneous goods and services decreased by 0.4 of a point or 0.4 per cent.
