The Index of Retail Prices for October 2014 stood at 172.1 points, representing an increase of 0.6 per cent when compared with the 171.1 points recorded the previous month.

Increases of 2.7 per cent were recorded for Clothing and Footwear; 2.4 per cent for Transportation; 2.1 per cent for Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco and 1.3 per cent for Food.

Decreases were recorded for Fuel and Light by 4.6 per cent; Housing by 0.4 per cent; and Household Operations and Supplies, as well as Medical and Personal Care, by 0.2 per cent each. Education, Recreation and Miscellaneous remained constant.

Between October 2013 and October 2014, the Index of Retail Prices increased by 2.5 per cent from 168.0 points to 172.1 points. The average inflation rate for that period was 1.7 per cent.
