A National Conservation Commission (NCC) general worker, who spent more than two decades landscaping the grounds of Ilaro Court, was given a rousing send off by her former colleagues.

Cynthia Worrell of Parks Road, St. Joseph, was brought to the retirement party today at Ilaro Court in MP2 – the Prime Minister’s official car.  On arrival, she was greeted by Prime Minister, David Thompson, his wife Mara, NCC Chairman, Richard Byer, NCC General Manager Keith Neblett, and others.  Ms. Worrell joined the staff of the NCC on July 11, 1979.

In brief remarks, Mr. Neblett said no complaints had even been lodged with supervisory staff against Ms Worrell during the 27 years that she was assigned to Ilaro Court.

In praising her commitment and outstanding work ethic, he said: “She was described by her supervisors as being a very disciplined, productive and honest worker who always reported for duty before the stipulated time.  She is also a very quiet, unassuming individual who performed her duties efficiently.”

Mr. Neblett wished Ms. Worrell a happy retirement and he urged her to continue to beautify her environment and assist her neighbours in landscaping their properties.
Prime Minister Thompson described the event as a testimony to her personality and the respect her colleagues had for her contribution to the NCC.

“It is important for us to recognise that Ms. Worrell would have been here for almost as long as this building was renovated for use by the Prime Minister’s of this country.  Therefore, in almost every aspect of the building and its surrounding, its ambiance and its character, she would have played a significant part in setting the standard which other workers from the NCC have followed with the sense of purpose, unity, hardwork and dedication – attributes that are admired by thousands of Barbadians.”

The Prime Minister extended an open invitation to Ms. Worrell to “return and visit us at Ilaro Court.”
