In an effort to reduce the number of reported cases of Leptospirosis, the Vector Control Unit of the Ministry of Health will be deploying Environmental Health Officers this Saturday, December 8, to distribute rodent bait, free of charge, to members of the public.

Between 9:00 a.m. and noon, officers will be posted at five locations in St. Michael, and one site in Christ Church.?? They are:?? P & N Hardware Inc., Tweedside Road; Plumbers Mart, Bank Hall Main Road; The Passage Road Community Centre; St. Giles Primary School, The Ivy; the Deacons Primary School, Bird’s River Land; and the Arthur Smith Primary School, St. Matthias, Christ Church.

The officers will provide information on appropriate baiting techniques and those diseases transmitted by rodents, and will take orders for bait stations which may be purchased for a nominal fee.

The public is also reminded that free rodent bait is available from the Vector Control Unit, located at Jemmott’s Lane in St. Michael, during the work week.
