The Rotary Club of Barbados South donated 600 masks to the Ministry of Health and Wellness on Wednesday, April 22 to be used by frontline workers in the Royal Barbados Police Force.

The donation is the first in a pledge of 20 000 masks made by the club to the Ministry to assist the security forces.

The cotton masks are pleated and expandable with a filter for extra protection. They also feature a different colour on each side, yellow on the inside and blue on the outside, to allow users to differentiate the two sides.

Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Kenneth George, thanked the service club for its kind gesture, noting that it was important for frontline workers to feel safe and protected as they carried out their duties.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Irwin Boyce, commended the Rotary Club for its commitment to assisting frontline workers.

He acknowledged that the response to COVID-19 required all segments of society to work together in order to overcome the public health challenge.

The presentation ceremony which took place at the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Culloden Road, was attended by representatives of the Rotary Club of Barbados South, the Rotaract Club, the Royal Barbados Police Force and the Ministry.
