Contributions made by Barbadian teachers to the profession will once again be recognised when the Royal Fidelity National Distinguished Teachers Awards are handed out later this year.

The community initiative, which is being under taken in association with the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, seeks to reward 10 exceptional teaching professionals with the deserving title and BDS $2,000 each.

Awardees will be selected from both public and private schools.?? They will include two from among nursery school teachers; three from primary schools; two from secondary schools; one from Sixth Form Schools and one from among special needs teachers on the island.

Additionally, an award will go to one teacher recommended from the Barbados Community College, the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic and Erdiston College.

Members of the public, their peers, parents and students may nominate the teachers for the award. The nomination process runs from May 1 until June 30 and persons undertaking to do so should visit www.ndta@royalfidelity.bb for further details.

To be nominated, teachers must be employed full-time as a classroom teacher in the Barbadian Educational System and have at least five years teaching experience as of January 1, 2012.??
