The Regional Security System (RSS) will, later this week, launch its RSS Maritime Security Project, which is expected to enhance the institution’s capacity to coordinate maritime security cooperation in member states.

The RSS, in conjunction with the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), will launch the project on Wednesday, October 30, at the Radisson Aquatica Resort, Aquatic Gap, St. Michael, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

The CDB’s technical assistance grant will support the development of national maritime strategies in each RSS member country, including Barbados.  In addition, a Regional Maritime Security Strategy and Implementation Plan will be developed.

This strategy will incorporate a legislative framework for strategic partnership with states, which share the common maritime space in the sub-region, in order to facilitate improved maritime domain awareness, coordinated maritime law enforcement operations, integrated border controls and sustainable economic development for enhanced human security.

RSS member states will be required to contribute to the development and implementation of the Regional Maritime Security Strategy to address the broad spectrum of maritime security threats, especially within the context of limited resources in the sub-region.
