The development plans of Rubis West Indies, suppliers of liquefied petroleum gas and oil, was discussed this morning when Managing Director, Mauricio Nicholls and Chief Financial Officer, Fred Royer, paid a courtesy call on Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Chris Sinckler at Government Headquarters, Bay Street, St. Michael.

Mr. Sinckler said: "I welcome your participation in Barbados’ energy sector and economy, and I feel confident in that Rubis is up to the task and can assure quality and consistency."

In turn, Mr. Nicholls, disclosed "When we buy assets, we commit to them long term…and we are committed to making investments in Barbados and the Caribbean."

Rubis, a publicly traded, French company, acquired Chevron Corporation’s Caribbean and Latin American operations in April of this year.?? The acquisition included 65 regional service stations which operate under the Texaco brand, with 13 of those based in Barbados.

The Managing Director also offered insight into the company’s extensive operation, which includes the transportation of product from the source to the terminal, to the supply of aviation fuel for seven airports in the Caribbean, including St. Lucia, Grenada and Guyana.?? He also discussed Rubis West Indies’ plans to implement a system at the national airport which would decrease the refuelling time for aircraft and officially launch the Rubis brand next year.
