As part of the Sugar and Rum Festival 2018, the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation (BIDC) will be promoting Barbadian rum and confectionery manufacturers on the lawns of Pelican Craft Centre, Bridgetown, next week.

The event, called Rum Day The Rum Way, targets cruise ship passengers, long-stay visitors and Barbadians alike, and will be held on Thursday, February 15, from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Patrons will be treated to live performances from Red Plastic Bag, Mikey, Blood, Faith Callender, as well as steel pan music by Mr. Impact and Mexican.  They will also get the opportunity to sample rum-inspired cocktails by award-winning mixologists, as well as Bajan confectionery, including tamarind balls and sugar cakes.

Tenants in Pelican Village will be on hand to sell their various souvenirs, craft items and food.

Manager of Export and Business Development, Coral Taylor, providing the rationale for the event said: “It aims to highlight Pelican Centre as a cultural area, as well as expose our rum producers and confectioners to more markets via our tourist arrivals.”

Chief Executive Officer of BIDC, Sonja Trotman, as well as directors of BIDC, will also be present to interact with tourists and locals.

Minister of Industry, International Business, Commerce and Small Business Development, Donville Inniss, is also expected to patronise the event during the course of the day.
