The much-anticipated Run Barbados Series will come off next month and the event is expected to attract scores of visitors to our shores.
The event will start with a Fun Mile on Friday, December 5, in St. Lawrence Gap, Christ Church, and continue with the 3K and 10K races on Saturday, December 6, starting at the Bay Street Esplanade.
The 2014 series will culminate with the 5K and half marathon on Sunday, December 7. Both races will also begin at the Esplanade.
Newly-appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), William Griffith, said the agency is ???taking the baton from the Barbados Tourism Authority to put on the Series???.
He continued: ???A decision was made that the BTMI would take responsibility for the Run Barbados events and brand. So, we are moving forward with the goal to preserve and improve relationships with existing partners, while steadily surpassing expectations of runners for years to come.???
Mr. Griffith said the event???s planning and operations had been moved out-of-house with a view to improving the runners??? experience at all points of interaction before and during the weekend race.
???For 2014, we have named June Rudder as the official race coordinator who brings 25 years of planning road races with her. We also have TicketPal onboard to provide more efficient logistical support with online registrations,??? he added.
The CEO also stated that he was expecting significant improvements and changes to its entire business model and branding of this long-standing event in 2015, and alluded to a very special event for the island???s 50th Anniversary of Independence celebrations in 2016.
Mr. Griffith thanked all the Run Barbados participants who ???took time to reach out to the BTMI for updates on the 2014 series before the official announcement???.
He also encouraged students and corporate Barbados to compete in the schools??? challenge, the Digicel CEO challenge and the Barbados Challenge.
Registration will start online from tomorrow, Thursday, November 6, at www.runbarbados.org, while box office locations will be announced shortly for paper registration. Participants may visit the Run Barbados Facebook page for updates on box offices, kit pick-up dates, start times and results.
