Matters regarding the provision of training for police officers, cooperation in areas of education, and human resource development, were among the areas discussed, when Russian Ambassador, Nikolay Smirnov paid a courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean.

During the meeting this week at Parliament, the two officials examined a number of areas of cooperation with the view to further strengthening the existing bilateral relationship between the two countries.

Ambassador Smirnov singled out the promotion of Barbados as a tourist destination as an area that could be explored, noting that at present, Russian tourists were going to the Dominican Republic and Jamaica because of existing air links.

Meanwhile, Senator McClean said Barbados was desirous of securing a double taxation agreement with Russia, as a way of facilitating investment to the island.

Barbados and Russia established diplomatic ties on January 29, 1993.
