Barbados’ scholarship and exhibition winners received some advice from Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones, today, as well as in depth information on the benefits to be gained from their awards.

This insight came when they met with Mr. Jones and other education officials in the Conference Room of the Ministry’s Constitution Road, St. Michael headquarters.

The Minister congratulated the awardees on their achievements and urged them, especially those who planned to study abroad, to remain focused on their studies.?? "There are going to be different challenges in the different schools where you are all going to study…and the only thing that remains constant is yourself…use these challenges to take you further up and not further down," he advised.

Minister Jones also appealed to students to make themselves stronger emotionally, spiritually and psychologically to deal with the transition to university life and to "make full use now of the opportunities provided".

In offering his congratulations, Permanent Secretary Guildford ???Bruce’ Alleyne, told scholars that the Ministry of Education had been allocated over 500 million dollars by the Government of Barbados, some of which would be used to finance their chosen fields of study.?? He further encouraged them to use the finances not only to contribute to their personal development, but for the benefit of their country, when they entered their chosen professions. kmoore@barbados.gov.bb
