This island???s school children are expected to play a major part in the launch of the 50th Anniversary Independence Celebrations.

According to Deputy Chief Education Officer with responsibility for Schools, Joy Adamson, the Ministry of Education has invited all schools ??? nursery, primary and secondary ??? to each send 15 children in uniform to line the streets of Bridgetown, as the ceremonial parade passes next Wednesday, January 6.

She was speaking at a recent press conference at the 50th Anniversary of Independence Celebrations Secretariat, located in the Old Town Hall Building in Bridgetown.

???The students will start lining from Jubilee Gardens and they will line right across to the Charles Duncan O???Neal Bridge. We will start with the secondary students??? They will line from Jubilee Gardens right down Broad Street. We have the primary students [who] will follow from the secondary students and continue to line the streets and we have the nursery students [who] will be aligned from the corner of the Treasury Building going straight across to the Charles Duncan O???Neal Bridge on the roadside,??? Mrs. Adamson stated.

She added that all students would be accompanied by teachers, and refreshments would be provided for them at the end of the parade. Additionally, Marshalls, Government Security Guards and members of the Royal Barbados Police Force will be on hand to instruct the students and provide security.
