Public schools will close for summer recess next week.

The last day at school for students this term will be Thursday, June 28 while teachers will proceed on vacation after Friday, June 29.

A total of ten weeks have been allocated for the 2012 summer holidays following which the School Year 2012-2013 will begin for teachers on Monday, September 3. Students will return to the classroom on Monday, September 10.

According to the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, there will be 38 weeks of instruction for the new school year.

The Michaelmas term (Term I) will run for 14 weeks ending for students on Thursday, December 13, 2012?? and for teachers on Friday, December 14, 2012.

During this term, Teachers’ Professional Day will be observed on Friday, October 19. However, there will be no midterm break.

The Hilary Term (Term II), which starts at the beginning of 2013, will be for 13 weeks, beginning Monday, January 7, for teachers and Tuesday, January 8, for students. The term will end on Thursday, April 4 and Friday, April 5, for students and teachers respectively.

Term III, also called the Trinity Term, will last for 11 weeks. Teachers will begin work on Monday, April 22, while students will be back in the classroom on Tuesday, April 23. The term will end on Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5 for students and teachers respectively.
