There has been a significant improvement in the performance of the island’s primary schools in this year’s Barbados Secondary Schools’ Entrance Examination, also known as the Common Entrance Examination.

This was the observation of Minister of Education, Ronald Jones, as he addressed this morning’s press conference to release the results of last month’s test.

According to Mr. Jones, the Ministry of Education will be working assiduously to ensure this trend continues.

"The Ministry of Education… right across the entire school system must bend our backs to the plough to ensure we improve the calibre of students exiting our primary school system. There is still a lot of work to be done and we know that once the effort is made at this level, there will be consequential improvement throughout the entire education system," he said.

Minister Jones also stressed that while all children do not perform at the same level, students who sat last month’s exam would have tried their best.

"We do not have any foolish or ignorant students in Barbados, some may have deficits and we have to diagnose those deficits early and clear them up if they can be, to ensure that Barbados stays ahead," he pointed out.
